A study found that stories written by AI are often seen as better than those written by humans. Many people could not tell which stories were written by AI. The AI stories were easier to read and more engaging. This does not mean human writers are not important.Standard version (B1–B2)
Research indicates that AI-generated stories are rated as more engaging and of higher quality than human-written ones. In a study with 1,682 adults, participants read stories from both sources and often preferred the AI versions. However, they rated stories they believed were human-written higher. The findings suggest that AI can produce competitive writing, but human creativity remains valuable.Advanced version (C1–C2)
A recent study published in the journal Judgment and Decision Making reveals that AI-generated short stories are perceived as more engaging and of superior quality compared to those authored by humans. Involving 1,682 adult participants, the research had them read six short stories—three by humans and three by ChatGPT—often mislabeling the authorship. Results showed that while AI stories received higher ratings for engagement, participants rated stories they believed were human-written more favorably. Dr. Deena Skolnick Weisberg, a senior researcher, emphasized that while AI can produce competitive narratives, it does not diminish the importance of human creativity and the unique qualities of human-authored works.Lesson audio
